IVAN ZAHINOS (Barcelona, Spain, 1977)
Iván Zahínos began his professional and life journey in Sarajevo back in 1998, carrying out projects in the city and other regions of the Balkans.
Since then, he has shared a bond with its people, its culture and especially its music. After over 20 years living its reality, he now understands that the best tribute to the “innocent city” lies in acknowledging its values of tolerance, freedom and multiculturalism.
He is Director of International Relations and Projects at Medicus Mundi Mediterrània. An experienced professional in the field of public health, over the last twenty years, Iván has worked in Africa, Eastern Europe and Latin America.
At the moment, together with local entities, he’s still involved in projects to promote women’s rights in Sarajevo.
With Kanaki Films, he’s made several documentaries, such as “A luta continua”, “La fiebre del oro” or “Woman”.
Our conversation revolves around the concept of mestizo as all cultures are, ultimately, a mixture. We have to live together in tolerance. Do away with that polarised hate speech, or mentions of black or white. They want us to think that that’s just the way society is, and it’s not at all true. We’re all a completely impure and precious mixture. If there’s one city in Europe that’s proof of just that, it’s Sarajevo.
